MARA CLARKE

Mara Clarke is an American living in London who has spent over 20 years helping people failed by governments and healthcare systems access safe abortions. She is the co-creator and co-director of Supporting Abortions for Everyone (S.A.F.E.), a group that provides infrastructure, funding and strategic support to frontline abortion activists across Europe. Through S.A.F.E., Mara works to strengthen the abortion access movement in regions where abortion remains restricted or inaccessible.
Before launching S.A.F.E., Mara founded Abortion Support Network (ASN) in 2009, the first abortion fund in Europe. Starting with a few bucks and five volunteers, it grew into a staffed organization with a budget exceeding £600,000. She led ASN until 2022, helping thousands of people access safe abortions.
Mara also serves on the boards of Abortion Talk and the Diversity Trust. She is committed to a world where anyone can access abortion, regardless of geography, income, or identity.
