Mika Gissler

Mika Gissler, M.Soc.Sci in Economics (1989) and Statistics (1992) and Dr.Phil in Epidemiology (1999) is a full Professor and hold professorships and faculty appointments at the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, the University of Oulu, Finland, and Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden.

Professor Gissler’s main research focus has been in the utilization of routinely collected health and welfare registers, with experience using registers in all Nordic countries, and in several European countries.

The main research interests include sexual and reproductive health, perinatal and maternal health, migrant health, childhood and adolescent health, mental health, and inequalities in the use of health care services. Increasingly, the studies have included a longitudinal component, usually from the prenatal period until adulthood.
